The Centre's Programmes are coordinated within two programmes
areas:
a. Health Programme
The health programme seeks to
investigate and promote a better understanding of the underlying
factors that hinder women and young girls from being in a state
of complete wellbeing as well as their inability to access appropriate
health care services when they require same.
It promotes a better
understanding of the socio-cultural issues that increase the
vulnerability of women and young girls to various health problems
including HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.
It seeks to build the capacity of the people especially women
and young girls to actualise their health rights and also seeks
to build the capacity of the health care system to be able to
respond appropriately to the needs of women and young girls.
Specifically, the objectives of the health programme are as
follows:
- To promote gender-sensitive research on issues
relating to the health of women/young girls
- To promote community awareness on health
issues and
problems (including HIV/AIDS) with particular emphasis
on prevention measures
- To mobilise women and young girls for positive
and constructive action for the actualisation of their human
rights
b. Information Programme
The information programme promotes
the exchange, sharing and utilization of women's health and
rights information. It also aims to provide materials for advocacy
on women and young girls' health rights. It seeks to provide
organizations and individuals involved in health issues of women
and young girls with online resources, including various databases.
The programme is designed to promote the building of capacity
of researchers, advocates and development workers to enable
them pursue their dream of actualising women and young girls'
health rights. The objectives of the information programme are
as follows:
To improve user access to global
information on women's health and rights
To improve information retrieval
capabilities and ensure faster document delivery for women's
health rights advocates and researchers
To process and disseminate gender
desegregated data that can promote the actualisation of women's
human rights.
To establish information links between women and
policy makers
To contribute to the development
of the next generation of women's human rights activists through
the promotion of research among young people
To build the capacity of women and
young girls for quality research and advocacy on issues relating
to women's human rights
To create the opportunity for improved
linkages and exchange between young social change agents in
Nigeria and their counterparts in the international community
