The Centre's Programmes are coordinated within two programmes areas:

a. Health Programme

The health programme seeks to investigate and promote a better understanding of the underlying factors that hinder women and young girls from being in a state of complete wellbeing as well as their inability to access appropriate health care services when they require same.

It promotes a better understanding of the socio-cultural issues that increase the vulnerability of women and young girls to various health problems including HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. It seeks to build the capacity of the people especially women and young girls to actualise their health rights and also seeks to build the capacity of the health care system to be able to respond appropriately to the needs of women and young girls.

Specifically, the objectives of the health programme are as follows:

  • To promote gender-sensitive research on issues relating to the health of women/young girls

  • To promote community awareness on health issues and
problems (including HIV/AIDS) with particular emphasis on prevention measures
  • To mobilise women and young girls for positive and constructive action for the actualisation of their human rights

b. Information Programme

The information programme promotes the exchange, sharing and utilization of women's health and rights information. It also aims to provide materials for advocacy on women and young girls' health rights. It seeks to provide organizations and individuals involved in health issues of women and young girls with online resources, including various databases.

The programme is designed to promote the building of capacity of researchers, advocates and development workers to enable them pursue their dream of actualising women and young girls' health rights. The objectives of the information programme are as follows:

•  To improve user access to global information on women's health and rights

•  To improve information retrieval capabilities and ensure faster document delivery for women's health rights advocates and researchers

•  To process and disseminate gender desegregated data that can promote the actualisation of women's human rights.

•  To establish information links between women and policy makers

•  To contribute to the development of the next generation of women's human rights activists through the promotion of research among young people

• To build the capacity of women and young girls for quality research and advocacy on issues relating to women's human rights

•  To create the opportunity for improved linkages and exchange between young social change agents in Nigeria and their counterparts in the international community
